General xDSL Configuration

Once your VoiceHost broadband connection is active, use the following steps to get your connection online. The following steps have been generalised for use with any broadband router.

Before you begin your setup:

1. Before you begin, we would suggest you have everything you need to hand. Make sure you have your routers configuration guide, DSL microfilters, line cable and power supply. You will also need you broadband username and password, that would have been supplied after your DSL was activated.

2. Read install manual that came with your device. You may need to install drivers or use an install wizard that came with your device.

Installing microfilters:

Microfilters are very important to the broadband install process. Microfilters separate the broadband signal and telephone calls from each other. If you do not install microfilters, your internet connection will experience problems with connections and speed. Your telephone will also have a high pitched squeal, if microfilters are not used on every phone socket where a phone is attached.

To attach your filter, please carryout the following steps:

1. Remove your telephone from the master socket

2. Plug the phone line into the filter, the telephone should be placed in the socket marked 'TEL' or with an symbol depicting a telephone:

3.Plug the filter into the master socket, where the phone was removed from:

You have now successfully install a microfilter, if you pick up your phone you should be able to hear a dial tone. If you do not hear a dial tone, you have connected the filter incorrectly.

Installing your router:

There are only a few steps to successfully install you router, however it is important to connect the supplied cables to the correct ports of the router.

1. Connect your ADSL cable to the filter, you have already installed. The lead should connect to the port marked 'DSL' or with a computer symbol.

2. Connect the other end of the ADSL cable to the grey port on the back of the router.

8. Your router will start to install automatically, this normally takes around 5 minutes. Once the power light is constant and no longer flashing you can continue the install.

9. Switch your computer on and wait for it to start. Once your computer has fully started, start a web browser such as 'Internet Explorer' or 'Firefox'.

10. In the 'Address Bar' at the top of the screen, enter 'http://www.voicehost.co.uk', if the site opens you have successfully installed your broadband connection.

Troubleshooting:

1. If you are unable to connect to the internet, select the 'Tools' menu located at the top of your Internet Explorer window and select 'Internet Options'. The following screen will be displayed:
